As the chosen hero of the sword, Link is able to remove the Master Sword from the pedestal there at any point in his quest, but he will first need to be strong enough. Eventually, Link will stumble upon Korok Forrest, home of the Koroks and his old friend the Great Deku Tree. ![]() Eventually, Link will reach a point where no more torches are visible, at which point he'll have to carefully make his way into the fog, ensuring that he quickly turns back whenever the fog seems it's about to fully envelop him. If he loses his way on the path, he will get lost and be transported back to the Forest's entrance. To get through the Lost Woods, Link will have to follow the lit torches in order to make his way through the fog. The Master Sword was initially damaged during the calamity 100 years prior to the events of BOTW and was hidden away in Korok Village at the heart of the Lost Woods to give it time to regain its power. In Breath of the Wild, Link does not require the Master Sword to defeat Ganon, but it definitely helps.
